About Us
In partnership with community organizations and educational institution, we host public events that share our students' work with 9,000 audience members annually. Wide Angle also supports the broader youth media field through professional development for educators, and distribution opportunities such as our citywide Youth Media Festival.
Wide Angle's Programs:
The Baltimore Speaks Out! Program(BSOP) is a partnership between Wide Angle Youth Media and the Enoch Pratt Free Library. The program serves over 50 students per year and teaches youth ages 11-15 video education, critical thinking, team-building, and public speaking. BSOP runs workshops from September - June at the the Orleans Street Library and at Fallstaff Elementary/Middle School.
The Girls Speak Out! Program is a for young women ages 12-14 years old. Students learn new skills, have fun, discover careers in media, and make their own video in this two week summer workshop (June 23, 2008 - July 3, 2008) Our progam gives Girls the chance to talk about issues that matter to them, and develop confidence in their own abilities. This workshop is held at our office in Charles Village, and offers students the opportunity to to visit a production studio and meet women working in the media!
Mentoring Video Project (MVP) Our advanced training,
internship-based program, MVP serves a small team of youth who are interns, advisors, curators, and leaders in Wide Angle as a whole. Currently our students are producing episodes of BeMore TV, a 30 minute issue-oriented show aired on public access television.
Professional Development for Youth Educators In order to support the field of youth media, and provide resources to educators and youth workers, Wide Angle provides specialized training in media literacy, technical training, and youth media facilitation.
Special Projects Our collaborations with community groups, institutions, and organizations help to strengthen all of our missions. From public service announcement workshops to screenings and panel discussions, we continue to use media as a tool to give youth a larger audience for the issues that matter to them.
