Episode 5: Young Love?
Young Love? focuses on diversity as it relates to gender and relationships. This  30minute segment deals with 3 issues.

1. We found that 1 in 4 teen girls is contracted with an STD and in Baltimore, that statistic seems to be even more staggering. Baltimore-Towson had the second highest AIDS case report rate of any major metropolitan area, 37.7 cases per 100,000 population during 2006 (Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.) Therefore, the students interviewed teens and parents alike about the growing epidemic of teen sex and its level of importance in the lives of Baltimore City youth.

2. Utilizing a narrative style we developed a modern day dating game show inspired by much of what you would see today in reality TV. The show explores the length of what a teenage boy has to go through in order to “get the girl.”

3. Finally, as the episode comes to a close the youth explored the difference between relationships during their parents’ generation and the relationships of today. For example, during our parent’s generation, teenage pregnancy was not as much a phenomenon as it is now. In this segment we delve into teenage pregnancy as we interview 2 teenage parents and gain their perspective on why it is important to wait to start a family.

Episode 6: Reality Check
The current recession is on everyone’s mind. As more and more jobs are lost, youth are finding themselves having to take on more financial responsibilities in their households. However, young people are in the same position as most adults in having a difficult time creating financial security. Because of this very real and prevalent issue Wide Angle youth decided to explore the topic further. The finance episode entitled, “Reality Checks” focuses on how teens in Baltimore focus on financial situations based on three components: how or if one’s race and cultural background effects their financial situation, the financial after effects of the GI Bill, and gambling among youth. In addition to these three segments, Wide Angle youth created 4 short animation PSA’s on how youth interpret key financial concepts such as savings, wants vs. needs, and compound interest.

Episode 7: Biographies
“Biographies” is a montage of short films addressing the economic, social, and familial struggles of 7 Baltimore youth. These youth allow us to take a close and personal look of these issues as we delve into their lives and journey through six stories all woven together.
