HIRE WIDE ANGLE YOUTH MEDIA!

Bring Wide Angle to your community, and give your youth the benefits of media education! All of our workshops may be customized to best suit the needs of your students, topic, and budget. Wide Angle works with youth in 5^th grade and above, with a special focus on middle school or high school youth. All workshops serve 15 youth, and presentations serve 150.  Please complete the following information. We review all application requests on Thursdays, and respond to project requests within 1-2 weeks.

FREE Programming Opportunities:

• Free 45 minute presentation for your BCPSS School:
  Audience Size: 30-150
  Presentations must occur between December 2009 – March 2010
• Free 1 hour gallery tour & discussion about stereotypes of youth
  Audience Size limited to 20. Located at CENTERSTAGE in April 2010
  Only BCPSS schools and organizations who are showcased in the 5^th Annual
  Who Are You? Youth Media Festival are eligible to apply.

Art-making Workshops ($):

• Accordion Books (4 hours)
  Class Size: 10-12
  Fee: $500
  Tell your story with pictures!  Using the theme of identity, students will produce a 9 page book of painted and drawn images that tell their story.  Students will learn about identity, composition, story-telling, book-making & presentation. Price includes workshop supplies and equipment rental.
• Poster Creation (2 hours)
  Class Size: 10-12
  Fee: $250
  Visual expressions help to shape identity.  Students will create a logo communicating who they are while they learn how to research, develop, and execute ideas. .  Upon completion of this workshop, students will use stenciling techniques to translate their ideas into a final poster design. Price includes workshop supplies and equipment rental.

Photography Workshops ($):

• Photographic Poetry Workshop (4.5 hours)
  Class Size: 10-12
  Fee: $750
  Students will discover their inner poet. By watching youth-made poetry videos and participating in group “slam” exercises, students will reflect on their own identity and create a written work of art and illustrate their poem visually using digital photography. Finished poems will be performed and their images displayed in a community exhibition.  Price includes 2 photo prints per youth, workshop supplies, and equipment rental.
• Photo Media Campaign Project (8 hours)  
  Class Size: 12-15
  Fee: $1,600
  Youth learn digital photography, composition, and visual communication techniques, while producing two photographic media campaigns, which will be produced as postcards or bookmarks. Price includes 2500 copies of each postcard or bookmark campaign, workshop supplies, and equipment rental.

Presentations ($):

• Screening and Discussion (90 minutes)
  Audience Size: 30-150
  Fee: $250
  Youth producers and a Wide Angle staff member present a Be-More TV episode - written, produced, and directed by our students. Attendees will learn how to critique media and the screening culminates with an energetic discussion. Topics include: Education, Environmentalism, Finances, Hip Hop, Identity, & Young Love. Price includes equipment rental of PA system, projector, & computer.
• Social Media Workshop (4 hours)
  Class Size: 12-15
  Fee $500
  Youth learn how to use the media they love to advocate, promote, and educate! We’ll explore the issues of privacy, and pitfalls to social networks, and share the best tricks for getting your organization, special event, or cause noticed! Price includes workshop supplies and equipment rental.

Public Speaking & Teaching Workshops ($):

• Public Speaking Workshop (12 hours)
  Class Size: 8-12
  Fee $3,000
  Learn how to make others listen to what you have to say and kiss stage fright goodbye! Students will learn how to confidently speak and make a presentation in front of an audience. Through interactive activities and practice students will discover that effective communication starts with knowing your topic, being well prepared, and communicating your enthusiasm to others. Tricks of the trade from speech delivery to voice projection, body image to vocal rhythm make you a successful communicator!  Price includes workshop supplies & equipment rental.

• Peer Teaching Workshop (12 hours)
  Class Size: 8-12
  Fee: $3,000 (*Rates determined by duration, supplies, staffing & equipment requirements.)
  The curriculum is composed of three core modules: Teaching Approaches and Techniques, Effective Communication, and Project Management. Students will learn core modules over the course of 6 sessions, and have the opportunity to create their own lesson plan. For an additional fee Wide Angle will work with the partner site to help them develop the technical curriculum so their students can peer teach the topic area of choice? For example our topic area is media so students learn and are tested on their video, lighting, audio and editing abilities. Price includes workshop supplies and equipment rental.

Video Workshops ($):

• Video Campaign Project (18 hours)
  Class Size: 10-15
  Fee: $4,500
  Youth media in a flash! Students learn basic camera operation, message creation, storyboarding, and are exposed to audio and video editing, while creating a 1-3 minute group video about an issue that matters to them. Price includes a DVD copy for each student and 5 copies for the organization/school, workshop supplies, and equipment rental.

• Video Production Workshop (32 hours)
  Class Size: 10-15
  Fee: $8,000
  Our comprehensive intro video workshop! Students learn basic camera operation, message creation, storyboarding, and are exposed to audio and video editing, while creating a 1-3 minute group video about an issue that matters to them. Students will also work on public speaking and present their video at a community screening. Price includes a DVD copy for each student and 10 copies for the organization/school, workshop supplies, and equipment rental.
