Kamaria Avery

ARTS2WORK APPRENTICE - MULTIMEDIA EDITOR

Kamaria Avery is a first-generation Filipino-American and the first in her family to earn dual bachelor's degrees from a four-year university. She studied Electronic Media & Film and Sociology & Anthropology at Towson University, and received professional video production training from the Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts. Their work includes fashion and travel photography, music videos, short films, corporate/doc-style videos, sports, and live events.

Although she has moved around a lot, Baltimore has been the center of Kamaria's experiences. From being a city she often visited in her childhood to being the city that provided her the foundation for her career in the visual arts, Kamaria is excited to give back to Baltimore through her work at Wide Angle Youth Media. She seeks to use the power of visual storytelling to create sociologically-informed stories that work to dismantle systemic oppression, promote unity, and motivate positive social change. Kamaria is developing their technical and post-production abilities as a Multimedia Editor to achieve this goal and hopes to create work that captures the authenticity of the stories she tells and those whose experiences she helps amplify.
